Many years ago Kate and I went on holiday to Corfu with my Dad. Kate loved reading whilst sunbathing and the weather was roasting so she was in heaven! We had lots of funny moments too, usually at Dad’s expense (sorry Dad!). One day he sauntered into the car hire office to organise a jeep for us to see more of the island. As he approached the beautiful lady at the desk … one of the lenses fell out of his sunglasses, crashing to the floor! He was mortified but us girls took a fit of the giggles!

The next day we were out in the jeep experience the beauty of the island. We saw some goats up the side of a craggy hill beside the road. Dad (an avid animal lover) parked up and climbed up to rescue the goats and bring them down to a safer place. At the moment of him having hold of one of the goats, struggling to move it down, a truck of local Greek men drove past who shouted angrily at Dad, shaking their fists! Kate and I were concerned what the locals thought Dad was doing to the goat and had to quickly convince him the goats were fine so we could make a quick escape in case the locals came back!

Another day we hired a rowing boat with an engine. Kate and I teased Dad about his captain’s hat but he was in character and ready for a new adventure! Us girls got slightly alarmed as he steered the boat towards Albania fearing we would get shot or taken hostage! Luckily we took on a new route and eventually ended up by a pretty and crowded beach. Dad cut the engine and rowed towards the shore. He lifted the large anchor and threw it into the sea only for it to be sticking half out of the water … we were in such shallow water we stepped out of the boat and walked to the beach! Again, Kate and I were giggling like mad into our ice creams!

The three of us had such a great holiday together with loads of laughs. Dad and I will never forget it and I know that Kate will have always remembered it with fondness, and a little chuckle too!
